Blackwood Canine

Prior to training, my dog Archie had a few quirks that made him difficult to deal with in public. He would be tugging at his leash constantly and dragging us around, he wouldn't listen when we asked him to do something, it was almost like he was running us instead of the other way around. After going through the 2 month training program with Blackwood Canine, Archie changed drastically for the better! He follows on leash rather than pulling, he obeys all commands, even his somewhat aggressive behavior around food was addressed! The entire Blackwood Canine team worked wonders and I cannot recommend them enough! Thank you so much for helping bring out the best in Archie!

My wife and I adopted a supposed 'pitbull mix' from our humane society and quickly realized through testing that she is actually a giant mastiff with mostly 'Ovcharka' independence (look up this breed to see our challenges) and Cane Corso size mixed in. Not only did our furniture need help but also our rescue pittie Lucinda who was getting manhandled by a puppy who didnt know her size or strength. We sent messages to a few trainers in our area and David responded and we had him over to assess the situation. Boarding Isabella with David for the 6 to 8 week program was the best fit for our Bella- it was an amazing program for us given the service, the timeframe and results. It does hurt to be away from the dog for so much time, but David told me to look at it like summer camp, then I felt better. It also helped that research told me dogs do not feel abandonment like humans do. Bella did need the full 8 weeks, but she came home an amazingly different girl. She is able to walk with us and follow commands like sit, stay, down, etc, and keep those commands until released. Bella still needs work, as all puppies will until adulthood, but we are now able to work with her and understand how to control her through enganging with how the dog thinks and not how we think. David worked with us for multiple follow up sessions so we could refine our approach with Bella to get the results that we need, and our dog is fantastic as a result. We even had David out to our location (as we are extremely close to his location) to help us on our quest to keep Bella from eating our chickens. I would recommend Blackwood Canine and Davids services to anyone who needs to keep a dog from running amok, or anyone who wants a well trained dog that they can be proud to walk around with.

We entered our K9 family members Deeco & Nixie, our two year old littermate BerneDoodles into The program for 8 weeks as “board & train” with 5 follow up sessions. Our primary concern was that our dogs developed “sibling syndrome”. Unknown to us, the concerns were created by our own misunderstanding towards natural behaviors of our dogs and how all of our own attempts to address challenges were only reinforcing the behaviors we were not wanting. It got to the point where we began to become concerned for their safety and our own on walks and coping with the energy they presented in the home through what we thought was obstinance. Upon return of our dogs, we were introduced week by week to behaviors unlocked by david and his amazing team of trainers through followup sessions to two entirely different Dogs. We finally have the dogs we have always wanted and now love to spend our time with. Most importantly we can see how our dogs enjoy presenting and following the discipline David and his team set as the foundation for peace of mind. We recently took our dogs on a 4 day trip and had the time of our lives with confidence that our returned family members would be equally part of what brings us joy on our outings and getaways. WE CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH DAVID!!! This was the best investment we could have ever made in Deeco and Nixie!
