Big N’ Small Paws 317 is a family-run Indianapolis dog training, boarding, and grooming company founded in 2019. Our leadership brings hands-on dog training experience dating to 1998 and ABCDT certification. Our team provides Board & Train programs, Real World Training, private in-facility and in-home training, puppy and service dog training, behavior consultations, reactive and aggressive dog rehabilitation, Day Training, boarding, and professional grooming. I’ve used Big N Small Paws for basic dog training, boarding, grooming, and more recently for Service Dog Training; and to date have been extremely pleased with the service/results rendered. I initially went to Big N Small Paws by accident as I was looking for a different facility, once there I was impressed by how quiet and clean the facility was; I thought facility was empty, then realized that the dogs were just quiet. I found out that the dogs were all trained at the facility and taught to be quiet. I immediately signed my 100 lbs, German Shepherd up for training and never questioned my decision. I have since used the facilities boarding and grooming services; and have recently signed my dog up for service dog training. I often get compliments from people on how well behaved my dog is; this is all due to the staff and trainers at Big N Small Paws.

We trusted Big N' Small Paws 317 with our dog for a 21-day Board & Train program. We brought him home four days early after finding him covered in feces, noticing multiple other dogs in similar conditions, and becoming deeply concerned about the level of care he was receiving. I don't leave negative reviews lightly, but I believe other dog owners deserve to know about our experience. When we visited, Charlie was covered in feces and there was feces in his kennel. Even more concerning, we observed multiple other dogs with multiple piles of feces in their kennels as well. Seeing those conditions was the reason we decided to end the program early. We also learned through a photo update that Charlie was being trained with a prong collar. While I understand some trainers choose to use this tool, it was never discussed with us beforehand. I believe owners should be informed before a training tool like that is introduced, especially on a puppy under 15lbs who trains easily. Another major concern was Charlie's weight. He weighed 14.5 pounds when we dropped him off and 12.5 pounds when we picked him up. We also received approximately 75% of the food we had provided back, despite being told throughout his stay that he was eating regularly. Afterward, I emailed the facility asking specific questions about Charlie's feeding, potty schedule, sanitation procedures, and why a prong collar had been chosen for him. I received a formal response that described the facility's general policies but did not answer many of my specific questions. I sent a follow-up requesting clarification and never received a response. I understand that accidents happen and that boarding can be stressful for dogs. My concern isn't that Charlie had an accident, it's the overall condition we found him in, the amount of weight he lost, the lack of communication about important aspects of his care, and the inability to get clear answers afterward. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this facility.
