American Success Dog Training Cincinnati OH

PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR DOG HERE!! The experience I had with American Success Dog Training has left me feeling very bitter and ripped off. It's been a few months since I took my puppy here for training/boarding. We left our puppy there for a week. At the beginning I was fine; this seemed like a reputable company with an impressive website. The one building I saw of their facilities was well kept and clean. The trainer himself seemed okay, just not the friendliest of guys. The deal was payment up front and they only accept cash, they fit us into their schedule when we needed to board our puppy. I got a text from the trainer about 4 days into his boarding, telling me my puppy had lost almost all his teeth and the remaining looked black and rotted. I was obviously very concerned and asked if he was going to take him to the vet, he just said he would "keep his eye on it". I kept checking up on the dog the remainder of the week and was told that he was very lethargic and wouldn't do much of anything. Finally, the day came that I could pick up my puppy from his training! I was shocked when I saw my dog, I thought he was seriously ill. He was a completely different dog than the one I dropped off, I was seriously concerned. The trainer kept saying he probably has a nutritional deficiency or something.. (I took my dog to the vet, who immediately concluded my puppy lost his teeth from biting the cage while he was at the trainer. When I told the trainer this, he got extremely defensive and actually said it was impossible!!) The trainer handed us a sheet that said "Congrats, your dog is trained!" and gave a list of about 10 commands. He told us that our dog only learned about 3 of these commands. We then watched the trainer go through the "routine" with our dog before letting us leave with him. My dog wanted nothing to do with the trainer, he was afraid of him. We got home with our dog and with every passing hour his energy and appearance improved. He was back to his old self by the next day! Some nutritional deficiency.. When my husband and I tried doing the "routine" with our dog, he got extremely nervous and cowered away from us. He wanted nothing to do with this routine he was taught. On a side note, I had already taught the puppy; sit, paw, lay down, and "come here". He is very well behaved, smart dog with an amazingly sweet demeanor. He is not incapable of being trained, I just think he doesn't respond to aggressive trainers that use zero positive reinforcement. So we take our dog back for a follow up visit and our dog does horribly, which really pisses off the trainer. I literally watched him yank my puppy around till his neck was pink from the collar. My puppy is terrified of this guy. At this point I'm furious watching this guy with roid rage take his frustration out on my very young puppy because he could not train him like I paid him to do. He went so far as to put the blame on me and my husband, saying we haven't been working with him, we let him do what he wants, etc. When I pay someone $1,200 to train my dog, I expect them to do the bulk of the training. This man expected us to do all the work. At the end of that visit he said he would schedule another follow up lesson, he said he would "eat the cost". As if we owe him more for the training our dog did not receive. I was so upset I didn't take my dog back there. I didn't try getting my money back because I knew it would be pointless. I was telling our experience to a friend and as soon as I did, he informed me of someone else took their dog there. That dog has never been the same, he described the dog as skittish/nervous since it returned from this trainer. We are lucky that our dog is very naturally well behaved and obedient, he is growing into a great dog. If this review stops one person from taking their dog to American Success I will be happy. I wish I had been given some kind of warning.
