AlphA and Omega Dog Training

We could not be happier with our trainer, Jay, and yes, he is training us, we, the humans in our new relationship with our Great Dane Otis born on March 14, 2026. We began working with Jay after seeing him with another local client and how well behaved his dog was in a very busy, loud, and full of distractions environment. At that point we knew Jay would become our trainer and set up the first appointment when Otis was 10 weeks of age. Otis is now 5.5 months of age and is well on his way to becoming the well-heeled pup we know he can be. Jay visits our home once a week where we begin by focusing on the challenges we've encountered in the previous week before moving on to a new skill. Throughout the week, Jay avails himself to us through text messages and guidance, all of which is spot on with the issue at the moment. Whether it is through reminders of what we are forgetting to do, or the order in which we do them (there are a lot of behaviors we humans must learn to speak "dog" effectively), Otis responds almost instantly as if Jay was standing in our home working directly with us and Otis in person. Our goal for Otis is that he will be trained to serve as the service dog for my husband Conrad. My husband lives with chronic severe asthma and must have access to his epinephrine at a moment's notice. Otis will carry this in his vest and be able to be at his side at all times, most especially when I cannot be there for him. At this stage of training, we are learning about how Otis is regularly pushing boundaries to see how far he can go before he's out of bounds and told to return to his spot. His spot is anywhere we or he identifies in any location, and in our living room after he outgrew his first bed, his spot now happens to be on his K9 Ballistics dog bed that is roughly the size of a double mattress. Otis is doing well with leash commands and improving on his skill of heeling without pulling or walking us. He may be more than 80# now, but in a year or so, he'll weigh about 100 more pounds and the importance of not pulling or walking us will become ever more important. He still has not quite learned that cats are friends, not food, but the oldest of our two is quick to swat this lesson back at Otis's muzzle when Otis's playing around is too rough for our cat. Otis has a canine sibling who will be 13 in December and it first, Otis was a constant source of stress for Lilly. As his training has progressed, her stress level has been reduced considerably, and she can tolerate laying next to him, touching noses, and sharing the water fountain. He was patient, professional, and very knowledgeable, and you can tell he truly cares about the dogs he works with.
