For more than 40 years I have been a professional dog trainer training thousands of dogs and their owners in all phases of dog training from housebreaking, obedience training on & off leash, protection training all phases, behavior modification & problems, introduction of babies coming home to older pets as well as new pups with older pets.<br>I have bred & raised Airedales,, Am pit bulls , Akitas, Rottweilers, Dobermans,, Shepherds, & others through the years & have owned and raised multiple dogs as well as my own personal dogs.<br>Owning dogs requires patience responsibility, effort & time, common sense some know how and humane caring is essential or you should not own a dog, who happens to be man’s best friend as well as woman’s and children’s best friend as well and should be treated as such. Putting a puppy down with an older aggressive dog and getting it bitten and traumatized is carless & not being very patient or responsible.<br>This is what she did with this puppy and and the puppy was bitten and traumatized.<br>I received this call from this hysterical panicked girl telling me her older dog has bitten her new 8 week old puppy she just brought home & traumatized it. This was a sad call indeed.<br>As I explained to her on the phone that some dogs are easy, & some are not and that every situation is different and there are no magic wands. All dogs are not compatible. Going about it the right way will be the best avenue of compatibility. As dogs are pack oriented animals it would be important for her to be patient to let the older dog get used to the smells & presence of the new pup to accept the pup into the family pack. Some times it happens fast & some times it takes time. She wanted me to come over right away.<br>Confirming that her father & whole family members would be there when I come over I was able to see her the next day as she lives 1/2 mile from me. I put her on for last on my schedule in the late afternoon as to give her all the time she would need to understand what I was to say about bringing these dogs together and for to all the family members being able to understand and ask me any and all questions so I could answer them to get this situation best helped with what I was dealing with so the puppy does not get bitten again and there chances for them to be compatible would be best.<br>When I arrived on time, I asked to see the situation 1st hand.<br>She brought out the older dog on the leash as directed & quickly the dog lunged and attacked the crate with the puppy in it. After seeing the older dog attack the the puppy with pit bull intensity I quickly told her to put the older dog away so I could get her full attention and all family members to explain to them the right way of introducing a new puppy with her older dog. Her putting this puppy out with this older dog was totally irresponsible and letting it get bit was totally lacking any common sense and unfortunate. As I explained distance & reading the dogs attitude and of course obedience training for the older dog that it could help but that would not insure they would be able to trust the older dog from biting the puppy again. She said she was not interested in obedience training for the older dog and she was more interested in training for the pup, so I worked with the pup and showed them what to do in front of all the family members explaining the proper introduction of the dogs again for their situation for their dogs to get compatible. I asked if they understood what I went over with them & if they had any questions. Answering what questions they had I told them that if they had any questions they can call me anytime and I would help them all I could. They thanked me and I wished them well and left. Her thinking I couldn’t wait to get out of there, well nothing could be further from the truth. There review totally caught me by surprise as they all thanked me and bid me a nice day as I left. I would go over at no charge to set things right.
