Response from the Owner/Trainer: Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I’d like to clarify a few important points about your visit with us. You were only at our facility for about 10 minutes before it became clear that your strong beliefs about training methods did not align with ours. This is exactly why we offer a free consultation—to ensure that both the client and our team feel it’s a good fit before moving forward. While you mentioned that your dogs did not receive much interaction, the purpose of the consultation is not to provide training but rather to discuss methods, goals, and to determine compatibility. It would not have been appropriate to begin handling your dogs during our short introduction, especially before we had established that you were comfortable with our approach. We do, however, evaluate your relationship and your dog’s reactions to being in a new environment during this time. Unfortunately, our interaction ended quite short of the full 40 minute time allotment, so we didn’t get far enough in, nor were you receptive to feedback. Regarding training tools, we have collected quite a wide range of tools to help our clients succeed in the last 25 years and we don’t disregard safe and ethical tools based on what is trending. However, the tools we help our clients choose are not used in the way you described. Our philosophy is not to “punish all bad behavior,” but instead to provide dogs with a full spectrum of communication—marking and rewarding what we want to see more of, and fairly correcting behaviors that are unsafe or unproductive. The ultimate goal is to build confidence, clarity, safety and trust between dogs and their owners. It is disheartening to see my words presented in a way that misrepresents both my intent and our program. We care deeply about each dog as an individual and approach every case with a caring, and thoughtful mindset. We are not a one size fits all program and we pride ourselves in treating each dog and handler team as individuals. While our style of training may not be the right fit for every owner, we stand by the effectiveness of our methods and the positive outcomes we achieve with the dogs entrusted to us. We wish you the best in finding a trainer whose philosophy feels right for you and your dogs.
