Since 1952, Acoma Training Center has been providing dog training classes to the Albuquerque community designed to make your canine companion a valued member of your family. Creating good habits and obedience with your furry family member for life. Family-owned, second generation with the experience and excellence to show. We specialize in many forms of dog training classes ranging from beginner to advanced. We provide novice and agility training, puppy fun training and even show training classes for those that are beautiful and want to show it. Can you train a dog not to bite, nip or jump? Our dog can do all the tricks etc...he just has a few problems that neeed to be fixed.
Actually owner, trainer, Trish Spradley, is a great source for dogs with problems.

Acoma training does train dogs for this purpose. Quite good at it.

No, pops on collar, either regular collar, slip chain collar, or prong collar depending on dogs need.

No one should use shock collars for obedience and they dont. Trish's methods are very effective if you follow directions, your dog wont even realize its learning!

No. They use choke chains, but are adamant that the chain must be loose. Then correction is a snap & release.

In a matter of a few months she is a completely different dog who obeys commands. We have taken Novice, and now Advanced Novice, and will soon be taking other courses here. I would highly recommend this place if you want excellent training for your dog!
Trish is a true dog behavior specialist. It is crazy to watch how other people's dogs almost instantly obey her commands

I do balanced training with my dog, so don't have a problem with the tools they use at acoma. But I had a pretty negative experience at the class I went to. I think owners should have a say in what tools are used and how they are used and I was hoping to be able to take from the class what I wanted and leave what I didn't, since every dog is different and may require a different approach. I did not want them to use the bitter apple spray for my dog and they insisted, so I said no and left. Honestly I found the staff condescending and it was not a good experience. Also, don't go here if your dog already walks on your right side - they make you change it to the left.
We have taken all our puppies here. She’s very knowledgeable. Different strokes for different folks. The training works if your calmly consistent. Trainer always says you get the dog you want by projecting calm behavior, your behavior teaches them.
