Jody is a dog lover and anyone who is a dog lover, I love. Aussie's have that MDR1 genetic mutation that certain medicines can be toxic to them. Off the top of my head, I am not certain what they are but when I have an Aussie in my care & custody which has been often, I refresh my memory. The environment I provide for dogs is a cure-all for resource guarding which is behavioral. It is then the encumbrance of the owner to carry out the training themselves at home and elsewhere. It is humility that assists a dog in learning that they are not more powerful than a human being, not humiliation. It's an involved process to strip the animal of it's learned behavior of being the schoolyard bully. Sometimes, it only takes the animal seeing another dog corrected that then is influential enough to put another in check. Dogs cannot be allowed to instill fear in a human. Snarling, growling, threatening to bite, or biting must be countered with sufficient response proportionate to the individual dog's temperment from the human to help the dog realize the human is more powerful.

Marie and her husband Ken are a husband and wife in their 80s that brought to me a seven month old working line German Shepherd that had super high drives. They paid for three weeks board and train, but the dog was a very high drive dog as I said, and required extended training. I kept the dog two weeks extra at my expense as Ken was also battling a second round of cancer. Why did I do that? Because these were two people at their age that had paid their dues in life that are lovely people and the dog was too much dog for them. The breeder should never had sold this dog to Ken & Marie. My conscience would not allow me to give their dog back to them where the dog could end up injuring them because Marie is a very frail small woman that her dog could knock her over and break her hip or other bones. I told them they could not have their dog back because he was not trained to my satisfaction yet, and that he needed to stay an additional two weeks. They said we don't have that kind of money. I said I am not asking for money, I am doing the right thing which is respecting my elders and doing what is ethically and morally correct for them. They argued with me about doing this. I said to them, "who are they to deny me the joy of giving?" I trained Thor to my satisfaction before I gave him back to them as a trained safe dog. They did reciprocate by sending me a huge fruit basket that had other goodies in it, which I was very grateful for, and I would not refuse it because again, who am I to deny them the joy of giving? Both Ken & Marie have become a blessing in my. life whom I tell them I love them and mean it.
