I have a lot of respect for you Natasha with your sensibility and courage in what you have to do with your dog. Believe me when I say I share in your pain as it is not easy to recommend to anyone that they euthanize their loved family member. Human beings, and particularly your children are more important than any animal. When an animal has bitten a human and the consequences for that behavior are not proportionate to the seriousness of the bite, it is guaranteed that it will happen again. A South African Boerboel is a powerful animal with a bite power force of 450 pounds per square inch and can crush bones. In your case, your dog got away with multiple bites of a human being, the last being pretty serious. For the safety of your family and the public at large, the only sensible thing to do is terminate the dog. I unfortunately find myself in the position of being that person having to affirm what people already know they have to do and it's not easy. You cannot rehome such an animal. Rescue organizations will not accept them nor shelters. Domesticated animals can NEVER snarl, growl, or bite a human being! Such behaviors must be corrected appropriately and immediately when they occur. Do not feel bad in your decision. You are the type of person that deserves a "loving animal" and your focus should be on getting a stable loving pet dog for your family to supplement the love that your dog did at one time have for you and your family and that you had for it. Your love for your children must always come first and foremost. I remain sorry for your hard place to be in but am adamant that euthanization is the best rational decision you can make with your situation. If you email me, I will send you an email back with a eulogy of one of my special dogs that I had to make the same decision of euthanization for due to illness. It contains a poem that may help you with any sorrow or regret that you may experience.

Debra, we thank you for bringing your dog to us for training. Chocolate labs, we have trained quite a few. But yours was a very nice one. It is so nice to get a nice dog for training that has a good temperament with a reasonable balance of its instinctual drives that we can fine-tune into a wonderful family pet. We get quite an array of breeds of dogs to train but the labs are always a treat as I do not recollect getting a bad one with high defense drive or aggression drive. We wish you and yours the best for the holidays and every day going forward thereafter.

I am being very honest about that assessment of Athena. We deal with a vast array of dogs, many of which are dangerous, troubled dogs that are very taxing on our emotions but we do it with the correct motives, to help the dogs and make happy families. It's people like you and your dog that allow us to find a balance that encourages us to forge on with the services we provide. If only more people would take a moment as you have, to share their gratitude of the services we have rendered for their animals, life would be beautiful. Not that is not beautiful. We work with dogs, and that in itself is beautiful and nourishing. But it is the affirmations that we get in the form of reviews such as yours that make it all worthwhile. We did train this dog Brody. Before we even contract with a client, we encourage them to do their due diligence, we encourage them to call the competition even telling them what to ask the competition so they realize what is out there for dog trainers. We do not sell our program to people. Our reputation precedes us. Our prices or more competitive than those other dog trainers out there. The 20%-60%-20% rule is as follows: 20% will forever praise the ground you walk on. 60% will love you for what you have done for them. And the remaining 20%, no matter what you have done for them will never be happy as they were never the type of person that could be happy to begin with.That last 20% is much less than that for our company. We have 33 Google Reviews, 31 are 5-Star Reviews,Two 1-Star Reviews. Do the math! She comes here to drop off Brody. Nice dog, in need of basic obedience as all dogs. Not a real problem dog, but I did get a sense that the owner was “different”. She had her friend bring up a name of a gentleman whom I did know from the dog sport of Schutzhund. What did Christine think, that she would get a break in price? I know that was what she desired but our pricing is what it is across the board. We practice equality. This is where Christine’s lack of satisfaction began. Christine complained that she did not get updates, that is her fault. Christine was told as all clients, that they need to download WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger for video clips and/or photos, and updates are done on the telephone, never by email or text. We tell all prospective clients, and clients, that we will offer them support for the life of the dog via telephone. But do not text us or email us because we will not answer and we will block your communications. Call us for the life of your dog with any questions or issues and we will accommodate you because we care. We will not and cannot acquiesce to providing a social platform to those who refuse to use the most simple and real means of communication, a telephone. Our primary purpose is to train people’s dogs. We can continue with our obligations to our current clients and past clients and their dogs on the telephone with earbuds. Christine is definitely deficient in her communication skills. She insisted on emails and texts which I did not respond to and will never. Responding to Christine's negative review is the closest you're gonna get me to a keyboard. We are in high demand for the quality of service we provide and I will not let a small percentage of people deter us from our primary purpose, which is training people's dogs, not chatting with a keyboard. I have gotten very good at weeding out these people that I quickly realize will have the “separation anxiety”, not the dogs. They call within 24 hours for an update which is ridiculous. This is exactly what Christine did, hid behind a keyboard. She complains that she never got videos or photos when others did. She never used Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to request such. Others did and they received video clips and photos. We put in place in our Board & Train Agreement, “there are no updates for the first week”. There was a reason for this, for those people who are the ones with the “separation anxiety”. Their dogs are having a great time while here. We bathe every dog before they go home but we are not a grooming service.“No updates the whole time he was there and no videos to show him working with my dog. One reviewer said they received almost daily updates, why didn’t I?” Christine never communicated in the manner we specified. Christine wants others to feel sorry for her as if her and her dog were victims. “I feel so guilty that I sent my dog there and wonder what actually happened in those two weeks”. Christine should feel guilty which was self-imposed. She wonders what happened during the two week period her dog was here because she failed to communicate.
