About Ability Dogs of Arizona
Arizona's only ADI-accredited owner-train service dog program , and the nation's oldest service dog organization, founded in 1973. Based in Tucson with locations in Phoenix and Las Vegas, we train people to partner with their own dogs under the guidance of certified instructors. We offer service dog training across five disability disciplines, adult and puppy classes, and facility dog placement in schools, healthcare settings, and courtrooms. Pay-what-you-can fees make our service dog program accessible to all.

are these trained dogs available to prospective owners who are seniors without great cost?
Hey Susan, thanks for reaching out. We are an owner-train program, which means people train their own dogs with us, alongside our instructors. We are very low cost, and also have scholarships for those who need financial assistance. If you don't have a dog we can help match you with one as well.

When is the next class for beginners, the cost and is scholarship money available?
Handi-Dogs has classes for the general public . They also have a service dog program. Acceptance into the service dog program is based on several factors. I suggest visiting the web site for more information. Scholarships are only available for the service dog program.

It's an open enrollment setup. Classes are mixed but small. Don't know about scholarships but call them.

I have been Volunteering at Ability Dogs of Arizona since June. If you need your dog fix this is a wonderful place to Volunteer. They are extremely flexible with your schedule and have various hours of Volunteer times. Fostering is also available. I am currently fostering Ferris who will be matched to someone that is in need of a Service Dog. We are in puppy classes, which are wonderful, the trainers are experienced, helpful and allowing Ferris to learn quickly, all in a positive manner.
As an owner/handler of a soon to be service dog, I am so thankful my life has crossed paths with Ability Dogs. The facility, staff, and trainers are five star! My future is looking brighter. Thank you

This place has changed my life. Not only are the trainers incredible, knowledgeable, kind, patient, and so very understanding, they literally live to make others lives better. Before finding ability dogs my quality of life was a daily struggle, I didn't think I had any options to help me. Ability Dogs changed my thought process, my ability to go out on my own, and gave me so many tools for my dogs. My first dog made it almost fully through the program, but had to be retired due to medical reasons. This dog literally helped me get a college degree, helped me walk across the stage at graduation with confidence, and helped me through so many difficult times. Knowing her life was shortened by the same heart condition that I have destroyed me. By some gift from God I was allowed to foster a puppy to potentially match, and I wasn't sure I could do it. With Pam's help I connected with this new puppy in a different way, a beautiful way, and he has taken the empty spot that I didn't think any other dog could fill. They train with love, they teach with love, and they give hope to those who need it most. Whether it's training a dog to feel confident in our scary world, helping a dog overcome aggression or separation anxiety, or teaching a dog to help their humans in ways I didn't know were possible. This place and it's staff are life changing.
