Board and trainProgram details
Looking for a powerful jumpstart to your dog’s training journey? Our 3-Week Bark Board & Train program offers immersive training tailored to your dog’s specific needs—all while they stay with our professional trainer in a home-like environment.
This program is designed for dogs who need focused attention on obedience, manners, and behavioral improvement, without needing to attend daily sessions.
Your dog will learn:
• Basic obedience: Sit, Down, Place, Recall, and leash walking
• Crate training and calm settling behavior
• Engagement and focus with their handler
• Real-world reliability—learning to respond in different environments and distractions
• Exposure to various settings, people, and sounds for better social adaptability
Unlike daycare or casual boarding, this is a structured training stay with daily sessions, rest periods, and tailored behavioral work designed to help your dog succeed outside the training setting too.
📚 Owner Involvement:
We believe in preparing you just as much as your dog. You’ll receive two 1-hour private lessons during the program to equip you with the knowledge and tools to maintain your dog’s progress at home. You’ll also receive a 1-hour in-home follow-up session to reinforce success in your environment.
We use a balanced training approach with humane tools such as prong or e-collars (based on your dog’s needs), ensuring clear communication and lasting change—not punishment.
Note: This program is not suitable for dogs with severe aggression, intense resource guarding, or extreme fear. An additional training week can be added for $1,000 if needed. · Listed price: $3,350.00
For dogs with deeper behavioral challenges, the 5-Week Bark Board & Train program offers a more intensive and customized experience. This immersive stay-in program is ideal for addressing long-standing or complex issues such as reactivity, separation anxiety, fearfulness, or resource guarding.
Your dog will stay in a home-like setting where our professional trainer works with them daily to reshape behavior and build new habits. This program includes:
• Obedience foundation: Sit, Down, Place, Recall, and leash manners
• Crate training, calmness around triggers, and behavior modification
• E-collar and prong collar conditioning (if appropriate for your dog)
• Confidence building and exposure to real-life distractions
• Structured rest and reinforcement periods to avoid stress and burnout
This extended program allows your dog to not just learn but internalize new behaviors and routines.
📚 Owner Involvement:
You’ll receive three 1-hour private lessons during the training to understand your dog’s progress and learn how to continue the training at home. After graduation, you’ll also get a 1-hour in-home follow-up session to support long-term success and smooth transition back into your lifestyle.
We follow a modern, balanced training approach, using humane tools and clear communication to guide your dog into making better choices. Our goal is to build trust, clarity, and consistent behavior that lasts well beyond training.
🚫 Note: Training tools are not included. This program is suitable for dogs with significant behavioral needs but not those with extreme, dangerous aggression toward humans. An additional training week can be added for $1,000 if needed. · Listed price: $5,350.00

We had a wonderful experience with Criselda and A Bark Away NJ. My puppy, Millie, went to her 3-week board and train to elevate her training. Criselda taught both Millie and I how to effectively communicate, skills to enhance our interactions together and with others (both people and other animals).
In addition, she has been great support after Millie’s training. Criselda not only checks in frequently but has also walks Millie on a regular basis and is home away from home when Millie needs to be boarded.
I would highly recommend Criselda for any service. Thanks for everything.

As Nesko’s caretaker and the owner of Cool Dog Services, I’m sharing this review on behalf of his family, who value their privacy but want to express their gratitude. Nesko is a highly driven dog, bred for military work, and requires an experienced handler to manage his instincts and training.
Criselda has been a tremendous help in addressing his resource guarding and guiding us through proper training techniques, especially during his adolescent stage. She has provided essential education on safety management, structure, and consistency, including muzzle training, which has given the family much better control over him.
Through her expertise, she has helped build trust and a stronger bond between Nesko and his family. They now understand that consistency from everyone is crucial, and they are committed to continuing their work with her. They deeply appreciate her guidance and highly recommend her to anyone looking for expert training and behavioral support.

Criselda and Bark Away NJ were absolute game changers for us! My puppy was struggling with reactivity, leash pulling and separation anxiety and we were at our wits end. Through the board and train program my pup learned so many skills but also how to calm down and deal with new situations. She no longer barks, walks great on a leash, responds to commands and likes her crate. Criselda was so supportive through the whole journey and sent lots of photo and video updates so we could track her progress and also learn how to continue her training at home. 10/10 experience - could not recommend more!

Stella is about a week out from her training and I can attest to it making a big difference. We chose to send her to board and train with Cris after I encountered Cris at the park and she helped me get her back on the leash after Stella had escaped our apartment. Right of the bat, I was pleased with the way Cris was able to build trust with her. Stella is a very stubborn dog, does not understand the far fetched consequences of her actions and was difficult to train without any kind of negative feedback. After a few more incidents where her actions put her at risk, we understood how important this was. I remembered Cris speaking about her methods and through watching her instagram feed, I felt confident about her training methods and felt that she still treated them respectfully and kindly. Stella did really well with her training with the prong collar and the shock collar. She used to always pull on the leash and be very distractible. Now, even with us practicing inconsistently, she has stopped pulling while walking and matches our pace well most of the time. She is doing well with other commands like place, down, and heel well. She is still pretty distractable and lacks impulse control but I am thankful for Criselda having laid the foundation and established a form of communication between us and her that is working and will help us get Stella to behave more safely. Also would like to add that I think Stella thoroughly enjoyed her time with Cris and I do think she misses that environment. With all the video updates, I felt confident that she was very well taken care of and loved while she was with Cris.

We used A Bark Away board and train while we were out of the country. It was a truly life changing decision! I can’t say enough good things. Our 1-yr old dog transformed in 2 weeks - while he is still very much himself, his obedience for recall, listening to me even when there is another dog (he used to be very reactive to other dogs), and relaxing in “his place” has been perfected. It’s absolutely incredible now that we trust him in every scenario, and are even comfortable with him off leash. Criselda is just an incredible trainer. While we were away we got frequent detailed video updates on his training so we could see how happy he was (tail wagging during training!), see his incredible progression (which blew our mind from abroad!), and learn (she was teaching us so we could continue the training and good behaviors when we got back). If you aren’t sure about ecollar.. I was also very skeptical, but I’m a big believer now. We have a Sheltie which is a very emotional dog, and he isn’t upset by the ecollar. Criselda trained us how to use it to reiterate our “no” and correct. He’s still his same very happy Sheltie self. Just much more reliable and we barely need to use the collar since he’s so well trained!
